Adoption and management

Work Package 4

As a starting point to improve rural advisory services, forecast land-use decisions ex ante, and develop effective policies, the fourth work package of EcoSiPas aims at identifying the factors that influence smallholders’ adoption decisions for silvopastoral systems, and the core management practices employed.

To achieve this, we will analyse the legal framework governing farmers’ land use decisions, and assess the structure, functioning, and quality of existing advisory services and organizations providing information and technical support for smallholder farmers. Surveys and in-depth interviews will be used to assess farmers’ needs and satisfaction with existing services.

Previous survey responses and interview data, land use data and data on environmental services will then be combined in order to determine the socioeconomic and environmental factors driving scale and intensity of silvopastoral system adoption and management, which will be conducted via econometric modelling.
