Farmer survey initiated in December 2024

We are pleased to share the commencement of the EcoSiPas farmer survey, marking a significant step in our ongoing project focused on improving sustainable management in the Brazilian Cerrado. Following a sophisticated sampling approach, farmer field visits are currently being conducted in different communities of the Rio Pardo de Minas River basin.

The aim of the survey is to collect baseline information on a variety of aspects, such as type and amount of crops produced on farmland, farm management strategies applied, availability of (native) trees, consumption and use of non-timber forest products, amongst others.

The information provided by the local farmers is vital for the research team to gain valuable insights and learn from their experiences in caring for these landscapes. In future, we hope that the results from the survey – together with further assessments to come – will help us to develop practical and sustainable land management strategies that respect the intricate balance of the Cerrado.
